The Ivy Clifton Brasserie

This place is incredible.

I have truly had the best day today. It’s my friends birthday so we ventured into Clifton, Bristol and went to The Ivy for some breakfast. I’ve never been before and it’s safe to say that it was love at first sight. The exterior was filled with Christmas themed decorations including baubles, wreaths and red bows - climbing up the walls of the entrance creating an inviting array of seasonal warmth.

We then made our way inside to the annex style room with a garden view, passing through the main bar/restaurant area that had art work covering the tall walls. The art work was almost pastel themed and created a cool yet relaxed atmosphere. It definitely wasn’t snobby as I was almost expecting from a place named ‘The Ivy’.

Once in the garden room (we’ll call it that for reference), your eyes were drawn to the ceiling that had hanging plants attached to beams below windows of soft light. We all sat and read the very tasteful breakfast menu; ranging from juices, to pastries to English breakfast and everything in-between. There were veggie options too! I went for Eggs Royale and we shared pancakes.

The coffee was absolutely phenomenal. I ordered an Americano that came with hot milk and optional sugar cubes. I can actually say it was the best coffee I have ever had (sorry Starbucks). I actually had two mugs of coffee because I just couldn’t resist.

The food then came out and holy guacamole - it was so so great. The salmon was plentiful and the eggs poached to literal perfection. The hollandaise sauce was the perfect amount of butteriness too. The pancakes were fluffy and light served with fresh fruit, sweet yogurt and a tart compote - finished with a dusting of icing sugar and fresh mint leaves. I was truly full to bursting.

Now, this all sounds great but you’re probably wondering how much this cost… For all of the above, it came to £17. I was so surprised at how affordable it all was! The staff were also polite and attentive which made the whole experience all the more enjoyable. They even gave my friend a mini dessert with a candle to celebrate her birthday.

Overall, I highly recommend this place. I’m going to go back for an evening meal in the very near future so stay tuned for that.

If ever you have the opportunity to go - definitely do. Clifton is absolutely beautiful as well and has an array of beautiful independent shops and boutiques filling the cobbled streets. But that’s a whole other blog post.

I’ll see you soon,

Meg xx
